A new member has suggested that a bypass hose can be fitted to the TD5 to "sneak" extra air into the TD5 without the computer knowing.
Any opinions on this from "THOSE IN THE KNOW"
It concernes me that the engine could be running too lean under full load.

That is exactly what is hapening Kelvin.
Let me see if I can explain this correctly in English (I´m not a native speaker)
There is a problem with the MAF voltage. Maf sensor as a default value and a maximum value of 4.9v. What happens is that with more air in the air filter box you raise the v value and the ECU simply cuts the injection untill the MAF v comes down to "normal values".
Solutions:
1 - Turning the MAF off - The ECU will work with default MAF Values
2 - The bypass solution:
3- What we, at td5inside, are trying to do is creat a small box (a bit like the turbo boost box) that allows this value to go up!

every time iv seen that happen is cos the maff it stuffed???
but would like to be corrected
i was at a a/c shop for work and said oh look at that td5 maf,, he said no thats out of a astra, it was identical?, semis and all?? may be the same maf, i will find out

unless i have been unlucky but this occurred on 2 brand new Land rover MAF and my 6mnth old one nanocom says its operating fine i am running a VNT turbo larger cooler so it is sucking a whole lot more i am at the moment in discussions with Jose (td5inside) and will hopefully have a solution soon as well as product

TD5 Alive have something similar...I posted a picture of it somewhere.....here it is:
At least with the pictures above, I can see how this hose would be fitted. TD5 Alive are also working on a boost box that does MAF as well.
Disco Thrasher.....what symptoms are you trying to cure with this?

i believe the turbo is not getting enough air and by feeding more in will allow it to operate at its peak ,i am also thinking a curefor this could be running dual snorkelsand the second air feed completely bypassing the MAF
....but what is your disco doing that indicates there is a problem....other than a fault on nanocom?
An easy way to test it, although not without some risk, would be simply to disconnect the crank case breather hose from the intake hose. It will suck in all the air it needs.....maybe too much given this would be without the restriction of the air filter...... not sure.

yeah i did remove it and it drove with 10 x more grunt and go ,so this is a reason why a secondry air flow source i think is required for these VNT turbos ,Maybe Tombie can comment on this as he has a VNT aswell and surely would be experience airflow starvation and if not your comments would be appreciated
