thanks woko, so that just fits between the alloy bowl on mine and the housing. Is that right?

Yes and the filter comes with new seals. You remove the spacer between the bowl and filter head. You will need to remove the whole unit off the chassis the first time as you will need to replace the bolt that holds it all together as you will need a longer bolt.

For the extra filter on the trap you can use the Ryco R2132P which is the equivalent to the CAV Delphi 296

thanks chucaro, much appreciated, I'll check them out.

So with the glass bowl you can get, does that go on the filter housing in the engine bay?

    What part number are these?

hang on, perhaps you did not understood me well.

The Ryco filter Ryco R2132P is the one that can be fitted on the primary water trap next to the fuel tank.

The filter housing that I have in the Defender (can be fitted on the Disco) is the Ryco assembly R2132UA which you can get it in SuperCheap for $ 64.99 for the complete unit.
I have this unit in place of the original LR filter.
The original filter was not good in protecting the pump and injectors

Just a word of warning on the glass bowl on the CAV filters - mine broke on the Oodnadatta track last week - must have been hit by a rock or something - If you go with the glass bowl, fit a shield to it. It is a bit worrying to be in the middle of nowhere and your engine dies all of a sudden.

Hi Chucaro, no mate, i understood. I knew the filter was for the one near the fuel tank, and I thought the glass bowl one was fitted to the one in the engine bay, just wasnt 100% on the glass bowl one. Thanks for the pics though, now i know what im looking for.

Ive had glass bowls break on boats with no impact, just a temperature change overnight maybe an overtightened bolt. You can buy an Ally bowl for those filters which I use in the boat. Note that the 396/R2132P has much less filter medium than the OEM filter.

IMO if you keep up to the maintanence I think LR got it right
-A large water trap at the tank (check and clean it regularly)
-A large filter near the pump (change it every 15 thou or whatever)

But if you add the filter at the back aswell as the bowl at the front surely you are filtering it more than with the standard filters?

I am currently in the thought process of changing the fuel filters on my 300Tdi Discovery... Am i correct in assuming that if i simply remove the top nut from the filter next to the tank and clean it out i can then simply put it back on without a new washer or anything of the sort?

    Cheers, James.
