    Auberins EGT fault

    Hi chaps,
I installed an Auberins EGT display and long EGT probe for my 300tdi. I have since travelled 3000km and it has all of a sudden started showing crazy readings, even with the engine turned off. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?
    thanks
    Brian

Thanks Dullbird. Just got a message back from Auber Ins and there is a check to do by shorting pin 6 & 7. Apparently this should read the ambient temp. It should indicate whether the guage or probe is faulty

Sorry for the delay... We were in the process of moving from Tassie to Yeppoon, QLD. Anyway, I just ran the test and the guage reads correctly, which means the probe is faulty.
Got me to wondering Dullbird, did you have to bend your probe to line it up in the hole too? Hope this isnt what damaged it

I have the same set up,
If I remember correctly it is possible to bend the probe, BUT they are very fragile and have to be done correctly and gently, otherwise they will break.
I bought mine pre bent for this reason, and have had no problems.
I think that there is a section of wire that runs inside the stainless tube to the tip where it is exposed, if this is damaged it will provide incorrect or erratic readings.
Hope its something simple but it does sound like your probe.
    Cheers

Thanks SiddersC. It definately is the probe according to the test they got me to do. I only bent the probe gently near the collar assembly, so the tip should not be damaged. Here's hoping anyway... dont want to stuff another one.

Yeah, I don't think it takes much to damage them, you could try getting the shorter probe as a replacement.
I have the long probe on mine and it stcks out from the plate a fair bit, could probably get away with the shorter one?

Apparently you need the full length inserted on the 300tdi to get in the gas flow, otherwise the readings are inaccurate. So I'll need to get the longer one...

Yeah, looked at mine again, I don't think the shorter probe would be long enough to get to the center of the airstream, once you have the mounting bung in place.
