I don't know anyone who has changed ratios to go from 32s (standard) to 33's on a 110/130. The change is negligible. My speedo now is 100% accurate on 33's!

Fair point. I never changed my tyres or ratios on my old 110. I still think they do OK for a disco on 245/75.

Any body any better ideas on the use for a 3.75 ratio?

My speedo is pretty much bang on with 33's also. I want it lowered mainly for steep decents (no traction control). Even in low 1 with 35's, she wants to start running away on me and leaves me edging for the dreaded brake pedal

Nothing wrong with using the brakes going down hills offroad. After all that is what hill descent control does. If the brakes lock up, you just take your foot off the brake and accelerate.

Saying you can't use the brakes going down hills offroad because you don't have HDC is like saying you can't use the brakes on-road because you don't have ABS. In most cases HDC doesn't slow the vehicle down enough anyway.

Don't forget the option of lower t-case gears.

I think they may have forgotten. As Ashcroft don't do a 4.12 for the Salisbury, and the price of an Ashcroft 4.11 Salisbury R&P is $805
Taken from the same price listing on Lucky 8 website

Yes, sorry. i wasn't expressing myself clearly. Hoping to get the lower geared centres to help slow it down in the decent and reduce braking need. My wifes 98 diesel cherokee would go up or down any hill without touching the accellerator or brake...Damn thing had auto pilot (that, and it was about 1500kg lighter)
Good point on the transfer case gears. I was toying with importing a t case from a 2lt petrol disco, but I think that will be TOO low for practicallity on the highway. I was told offhand that it would reduce gearing by around 40%, but that sounds dubious
Got a starting point on a place to hunt up lower tbox gears? S/H out of something else or only new? Cheers.

Fitting a Disco transfer was not going to lower your Low Range

ALL LT230 T-cases have the same low range. The only way to get lower low range gears is to buy them from MR Automotive.

The english 2lt petrol disco had a much lower geared transfer case, according to my (reliable) sources.

Only in HIGH range - so won't help offroad. And I would be surprised if it was lower than the defender 1.4:1.

    The 2.5 NA 90/110s had 1.6:1.

A few searches and a bit of reading would have avoided all these questions...
