    Diff ratio recommendations

I'm looking at changing ratios, as running 35's leaves my 95 dual cab 130 even more gutless than usual, and (IMHO) geared too high in low range when off roading.
Lucky 8, Who i'm ordering lockers from in the states have a few different ratios available. I was thinking maybe 4.12:1 or even 4.37.
Is that going to be too big a reduction for practicality on the highway?
Anyone done the same and has feedback, or just general technical advice?

    Hi Moorey

What is your original diff ratio & tyre size. And do you want to more , less or the same revs as standard. Somewhere I have a gear chart . That is if I can still find it

4.11 is what most go for with 35s. However since you have a sals rear you will need a 4.12 front and 4.11 rear. Shouldn't be any problems with this, though some claim they have had (vibration) problems with shight ratio differences in landies.

Btw - the Ashcroft site has a ratio calculator. AND - they have the gears cheaper...

What you haven't listed is the price for a Salisbury R&P for the rear.Be prepared for a shock at the price

Ashcrofts price is slightly cheaper for the R&P's,but the cost of freight is a lot more than the cost from the U.S.

I have been through all this recently.I ended up with something similar to Max (TUSKER) and fitted a 4.11 DANA 60 R&P in the rear with a custom made flange to match the pinion to the Rover UJ.Worked out saving hundreds over the price of a 4.11 Salisbury R&P.

Dave Ashcroft mentioned on another forum that he was very keen to sell some of these gears to AU - take from that what you will.

I suspect the 3.75 is for 33's on a Defender/110/130. That said they do very nicely on a D2 with 245/75/16 tyres, which coincidentally are the largest (legal) you can put on a RRC/D1/D2 according to the new NCOP? Unless you live in QLD....which is why I'm moving to VIC!

Moorey - assuming you had 235/85/16 or 7.5R16 on originally, you want a 3.9 diff ratio for 35" tyres. Nobody makes them so it's a 4.12 for you (or 4.11).

Yeah I saw that when he said it,but I believe it was in regard to beating KAM prices here, and it was actually the older 4.11 that was mentioned.

The price of the item isn't the problem. It is the freight charge from Britain.

Ask them to quote for surface mail... works out lots cheaper but will take a while to get to you... depends on how much of a rush you are in?
