Thanks for that, but now I am really confused. It looks just like the first picture, however...

...the vehicle is a Defender Td5 and should have the R380. Reverse is right and down, LT77 is left and up yes?

The gearbox was replaced completely when the old one crapped itself by a new unit sourced from Rovacraft (and not fitted by me).

It looks like this, can someone confirm the gearbox? Cos if it's an LT77 I have been seriously ripped off

Frenchie, you should have the R380 in your TD5.
But I'm wondering (but some one more aquainted might know)
Since often rebuilt gearboxes are supplied minus the selectors ( I think Ashcroft sell the bare box, without bell housing and gear levers. That an LT77 gearbox selector could be fitted to an R380?

Frenchie here is a pic of the bias plate I replaced on my R380. The areas of cracking causes the tang to twist.

That was one thought I had, however surely mine would be the original ones that came with the vehicle (I bought it new), unless the ubit that was supplied when it was replaced happened to be a mongrel.

If it was an LT77 reverse would be in a different place.....weird!

The dreaded tab breaking (and I had this) is as far as I know restricted to the Disco R380.The Fender has a different set up from my recollection of the Rave Transmission rebuild manual and judging from the two diagrams above.

O, just had a look at rave for Defender. there are A,B,C & D variations of the box.
The pics following show the adjustment for bias for the variations.

Aha! I reckon mine's type A, I do have a Rave CD but it's packed in a box somewhere awaiting shipment from Perth. Maybe I should just buy another....
