Brake booster question for brake buffs

    Hi all.

I have replaced the brake servo unit on a 300 tdi, with the motor off, pumped the bakes a few times till it goes hard, then start the motor, with the foot still down, nothing happens till you pump the brakes again then the pedal drops,

    any ideas

    thanks in advance

I think that you still have air in the system.
check the booster connections, any loose hose and it will suck like mad and not pressurise the system. The manifold connection is where I would start.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 300Tdi gets vacuum from the vacuum pump on the right hand side of the engine. Diesels don't have manifold vacuum.

potentially the check valve on the new booster is sticking in the open position, set up your brake test and then hold the brake pedal down with a rod to the seat frame/box. If you have a vacuum brake bleeder use that to apply suction to the booster and listen inside the cab near the pedal for a slight whistle noise.

If you have a compound gauge t that off of the booster and the vac bleeder to see what your holding.
