    Clutch master Cyl size?

    Hi All,
I am trying to sort out my clutch setup for my county/ls1/GQ 5 speed conversion, at the moment i have a standard GQ slave cyclinder and im 1 fitting short of having it hook up to the hydrolic lines from the LR setup, But before i go and get a line made up i wanted to check if this will work.

The GQ slave is 5/8in bore, and a GQ master cyl is 3/4in and it uses a vacuum booster setup, i plan (if it will work) to run it straight off the standard master cyl but cant find any marking for bore size on it or any information on the net about what size they are.... can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Mick.

I just went outside and measured the bore of an old master I took off my Defender a few weeks ago,and the bore size was 3/4"
There were no markings on it,so am not sure if it was genuine or aftermarket though
Not sure if the slave cylinder bore is the same as on my defender, which is the same as series 3 and is 22mm or 7/8"
Hope this is of some help

    Mick,
"standard" clutch master in a fender is a 3/4" hydraulic trailer brake master.
You can also get 1" trailer masters, which though bigger, have a similar bolt pattern and push rod location and "should" be able to fit up to the fender pedal box?
If the GU used a 3/4" cylinder + vacuum assist it may be a liitle undergunned with just 3/4" master.

Remember that the Defender uses spring assist on the pedal, and that helps quite a bit in keeping the pedal pressure down, it's just not as 'sophisticated' as a GQ/GU vacuum assist.

I'm trying to remember if the first Defender I drove 11 or so years ago had the spring fitted or not, as i seem to recall it had a really 'bitey' clutch.

BTW, you should try a Patrol pedal without any vacuum in the system, it's a bit of a surprise
Reminds me of the old HD one tonner clutch in my old Commodore from another lifetime.
Even though the booster is small, it works.

Thanks guys, i have been told that not all GQs have the booster on the master cyl, i might give it a go and if it doesnt work that great i might step up to the 1in MC or try and adapt the GQ setup to it.
