Ok Before I have changed the pump the steering box is now leaking quite a bit.

Has anyone rebuilt or resealed one of these?

    Cheers

Looks like it. thanks a moove might be good. I'll look there as well. have done a search. The good news for everyone else is the seals in your steering box are good for 339,000km.

I put a full seal kit through mine when I bought it. Also found that the bearing on the lower section of the sector shaft was also buggered cause all of the needle rollers fell out when i pulled the shaft out.

Kit was $99 from British 4wd and $30 for the bearing. It lasted 4 years before it started leaking again, but the shaft was badly scored because of the bearing failing. It wasnt to bad of a job to do, you need a vice on a work bench to hold the housing whilst you fit everything back together. The RAVE CD was my friend. The main issue I had was getting the sector shaft set right on the worm gear in the bottom of the box so it didnt have any play but wasnt to tight.

I have since bought a second hand steering box on ebay and fitted that, I got the seal kit you posted above but didnt bother fitting it when I couldnt get the pitman arm off. I'll deal with it when it starts leaking, the outer rubber seal looks a bit perished but the inner seal seems pretty good.

One way I remember doing it on my 90 is as follows.
Fit a 3 legged puller to the shaft and pitman arm. Tighten it up but not mega tight. Then jack the vehicle up a little bit. A sharp tap on the arm and it came off. Not sure if this will always work as some seem to be a b*gg*r to get off. In the UK now they sell steering boxes with the arm already fitted.

    Hi Matt
Yes used one, worked well no leaks since. Hardest bit was getting the arm off.

I have a ball joint separator / remover fork that goes on my Air hammer works a treat on ball joints, is that a bit harsh on the steering box?
