I can' t fathom the reason behind their warning.
I Fit them to all, more problems arise if YOU DON'T!.
I have done the dowel vs head/ block measurements and have fitted LOTS to early engines, no issues at all.

I must admit to some confusion here. I remember reading a post here some time ago where it was stated that the dowels were only used for locating the head correctly, before the bolts were torqued. After that they served no purpose at all. Of course if this is true it doesn't matter what they're made of.
So is this actually true or not?
