    Seat brackets - paint recommendation?

    G'day all,

Slowly getting around to a few small cosmetic jobs ... question ... what paint would you recommend to re-coat the seat brackets on the County? It was originally black but they are now very chipped and mostly covered in surface rust ... brown would be the colour as of now.

Any suggestions on best product? I'd like to get it done today ...

    Cheers, Simon.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
Powder coating is good and not that expensive.
POR or KBS coatings are very good but expensive.
Then there are 2 part paints, but a lot are overated. I spent a small fortune on Wttyl brand paints to do a trailer, bull bar etc and were supposed to be chip resistant. Even though following the instructions to the letter still chipped to easily and the bullbar did not dry poperly (went away for 3 weeks and came back and was still tacky.
Then there is your metal paints like kill rust etc which are a lot cheaper and just as good, especially with a clear coat or two.

Thanks Craig ... I think I might still have some cold gal kicking around as well, I hadn't though too much about powder coating, just wanted to get them tidy and looking specky again. I was thinking along the lines of metal paints and job done ... but perhaps I should think about powder coating ... hmmm.

Wire brush, slap on some Penetrol, allow to dry and then spray with a quality enamel in a spray can. Penetrol is great stuff for repainting over surface rust - it seals the rust to stop it coming through again.

You could get more carried away but this will last for a long time.

    Hey Mark,

Thanks for the heads up mate ... I actually went out to Bunnings today and bought Penetrol before I read your reply so great minds and all that. I also bought some nice all in one primer and satin black paint to go over the seat base and brackets after the Penetrol does its job. This will be my first experience with this stuff so I hope it does the job.

    Best, Simon.

Painting is easy, but the best results are obtained with the best preparation. Spend the time preping the material you intend to paint and the painting process will be so much easier and the results so much better.

Looking forward to seeing this beast Simon, you got it rego'd yet?

Tomorrow is the day mate ... I've got to come up to Bathurst Bunnings again in the coming week or so to pick up some Landscaping gear - might try and make it a day when you're home so I can drop in?
