    How to remove seat brackets?

I want to remove the seat base brackets et al and give them a dose of Penetrol and a respray - went to do it yesterday and was confronted by the fact that there is no access to the rear bracket screws as they sit directly beneath a bunch of metal without only about 3" clearance. I can see the two screws per side but am scratching my head at how to unscrew them?

My only thought was some type of L shaped Philips head thingy ... which I don't have. Am I missing something or is it supposed to be near impossible?

    Let's try this ...

Can anybody that has a 110 workshop manual that includes the County from 83 onwards, enlighten me as to the operation for removal of the metal seat base brackets. I would draw special attention to the access of the rear bottom seat base screws? How is it done?

    I thank you ...
    Simon.

    Front or rear seas?

The front ones just unscrew... move the seat forward to do rear screws and vice versa for front.

The screws are held in by captured nuts on a retaining plate which will fall into the battery / tool box when the screws are undone.

For the rears its just a matter of a shifter inside and a shifter outside..

..unless I don't understand what you are trying to do...

I do not know the County set up, but a small 1/4 [or 3/8] drive ratchet, with a phillips head socket may be the go. A set with the Phillips head socket is cheap from Super Cheap.

Thanks gents ... the front seats are the ones I'm having a hassle with. They are so old and rusted that they no longer slide as far as I can ascertain. So ... it must be that the rear screws would have been easy to get to when they slid forward ....right! They don't slide now ...

I managed to pick up one of those S shaped Phillips head thingo's which may allow me to get them out ... then I can apply some serious Wd40 and banging with something heavy to get them to move again! Will let you know how I go.

    Cheers, Simon.

All good boys ... it wasn't as bad as I thought! A couple of squirts of WD40 and a good shove and the passenger seat slid forward without any problems. Got the passenger seat out now ... made the mistake of thinking I could disassemble the seat back from the base ... you don't want to go there.

After removing the three tiny screws from the cover for the seat back adjuster, the three metal locating retaining clips all fell out at the same time. As they were loose I tightened them up so they would locate again, and then in the dark spent the next 15 mins making sure all the tiny holes lined up with the plastic cover so I could get the screws back in .... never to bother doing this ever again!.

I was going to use spray paint but since the seat backs are so much drama to remove I'll have to paint on the black stuff to make sure nothing goes where shouldn't. Will post befores and afters when done.

    Best, Simon.
