    Turbo oil feed line sealing

    Can someone advise on how to seal where the oil feed line goes into a turbo? Currently it is oil line from engine > banjo fitting > 2" extension > turbo. I understand the banjo requires copper crush washers which I have but how should the 2" extension be sealed against the turbo? Another crush washer? Google says loctite, teflon paste and some others but considering it's quite a critical area I want to ensure it's done right.

    Pic of the 2" extension? Does it bolt to the turbo housing using a banjo, a plain flanged threaded connection, a tapered, threaded connection or a fitting like a brake line has? If either of the former, then copper wahers, if either of the latter two, then it should be fine as-is.

    I can post a pic of the exact part a bit later but it is pretty much like this.



    It is a plain threaded connection with two flat surfaces providing the sealing between turbo and the extender, a washer of some sort goes here. The threaded section goes into the turbo, the banjo goes on the other end.

    The pic you posted is bspT or npT thread - the T means tapered, so it should seal itself (you could add a light smear of silastic if worried. If the real part is NOT a tapered thread, and instead relies on the flange-flange seal, then you will need a copper washer. You can usually spot a non-tapered thread because it has a groove/no thread at the root (whereas your pic has metal as wide/wider than the thread at the root).

    Thanks for your help, this is the actual part in question. That large flat area mates to a large flat area on the turbo. Copper washer you think?

    Not a tapered thread, so yes, copper washer.

    are reusing copper washers, if so try and anneal them prior to fitting

    Fitted new crush washers and all seems fine after 10mins at idle but will need to take for a bit of a drive to make sure.

    Thanks weeds I'd read about annealing the copper washers if you plan to reuse them. I'll keep the old ones as spares.
