Identifying problems with LT85 in an Isuzu County?

It really does seem that your whole transmission is so worn that it would be uneconomical to repair.It has been too many years since I had my oily mits inside an LT85 but recall that a circlip on the mainshaft that holds 5th gear into position can fail and allow the shaft and gears inside to float back and forth on overun, with the possibilty of partially engaging 2 gears
simultaneously, which would lock up the transmission and stall the engine if it didn't break a gear first.

So what happened when the box you had 'threw in the towel'? Did it strip the gears? Crack the case? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if there is any danger of the drivetrain locking up whilst in high range on the road. I don't plan on driving it much but I may need to do some small city trips until I get a new box through.

All of the above, except the casing is OK, but the front plate is a bit hashed as the bearing outer ring collapsed and it looks like it ran in the housing itself.

I've ordered a new unit from Ashcroft in the UK and it arrives at the airport tonight!

Has anyone (near Melbourne Eastern Suburbs) got an adapter plate they have already made to support a LT230T for removal from underneath?

If anyone has one they are willing to lend that would save me the trouble of making one.
