    TDi A/C condensor fan replacement

Hi Has anyone out there got any good ideas on the replacement of the condensor fans [D1]. One of my Denso fans failed so I pulled it apart. The armiture has excessive wear, so I am assuming that is the problem. I understand a unit replacement is in the $650 mark. Are parts available for these or do I have to go after market?
I am assuming this is a common problem. I have done a search but found nothing decisive. Going by the comments, the after market fans are not as good. I would appreciate any feed back you have. [ what's the best fix?]

I have been looking on ebay, there are some cheap ones there. 10" 7 amp $19 - $32 . The overall dimensions are the same as the original. I asked what bearings they had & if the units were suitable for constant use. The reply was 2 sealed bearings & OK for the application. How does 7 amp compare with the originals?
Also, are the "S" type blades any better or more efficient ?
I realise the after market are probably not as good but compared to $500 for 2 motors they may be good enough.
Has anyone had any experience with these?
I look forward to your opinion.
    Michael.

We are talking the large diameter electric fan behind the front grille that kicks in when the aircon is switched on - yes ?

If so, I just replaced with a generic one from supercheap. Same diameter. The hardest part was that the mounts were different so I needed to fab some brackets. I'm not keen on these mounting kits that go through the core.

    Around $55 from memory

Davies Craig is a brand that's been around for a long time and seems okay. (Though all made Chiner now, I'm sure.) They have an online catalogue, an online shop, and some Ebayers sell them as well.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

Yes, for what its worth I bought two 10" fans from Ebay. They have been in service for around 2 years now. They seem to do the job but are very noisy. Not sure about how much air they push except to say the aircon ran much colder when I put a 16" fan behind the radiator (instead of the clutch fan). I think it helped pull the air through better. It replaces a 14
" S type fan which was also from Ebay and was utter, utter trash!

Thanks to all who replied. I was a bit worried about those cheap fans. I have found some 10" Zirgo units in the US which seem popular with the Hot Rodders there. Landed here for about $240 for 2. Could be the same as the Davies Craig. Though they are mostly made in China different brands have different specs. I'll check out the Davis Craig catalogue. I have been quoted $230 for a Denso fan motor EM2321. Still a bit OTT for what they are.
Does anyone know what the Amp rating of the original Denso fans are?
Thanks again for all your feed back, it has been most helpful.

Bursons have the Davies craig 10" fan only (no wiring) in stock at most stores for about $90 each. You will need to make up some brackets and swap out existing connector plugs. You won't get a OEM Denso motor for less than $225 each.
