    Vibration Through the Clutch Pedal

It has been there only slightly, but over the last couple of weeks has slowly gotten worse, but today it got very noticeable, vibrating under acceleration and when backing off, it also has a noise when at idle, depress the clutch all the way to the floor and the noise goes away, lift it slightly and it comes back and the pedal vibrates, when resting the foot on the pedal you can feel it pulsing.

To me it's the thruss race/throw out bearing, any other things, dual mass flywheel, clutch still feels OK changing gears, engages about 1/3 to 1/2 way out.

    Baz,

Possibly pressure plate diaphragm spring unevenness casuing the pulsing. The spring can have weak points that cause some of the fingers to sit higher than others at rest. Only way to be sure is to have a look. I'd be fiting a new clutch and most definately a spigot bush if you go that far. How many Km's?

Possibly the uni joint bearings starting to go. It took me a while to locate a slight driveline vibration it my D1 a few years back. It wasn't obvious until I disassembled the rear front (if that makes sense ??) uni joint and the bearings came out in pieces.

JC, it's done 260,000ks, but the clutch is only 100,000ks old

Going to look at other things tomorrow and have the clutch done as I feel it is the problem, annoying being just before Xmas

    Thanks, Baz.

oops, didn't read the first post properly, the pressure plate issue I mentioned won't happen when the clutch is fully released and you are driving, UNLESSS it is REALLY out of balance...read BADLY.

OK so I took the car down the my mechanic, he takes it for a drive this morning, rings me about 10mins ago, nothing, in fact he said it was perfect, no noise with the pedal out, no pulsing through the pedal, no vibrations in the car at all

Could it be anything else, or is this a sign it's on it's way

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

I think that's a sign that the mechanic just isn't listening carefully enough. I've got pretty much the same problem with my clutch (3.9 D1) and it's something I need to get looked at because I want to have it fixed before attempting any serious trips with the car. It just makes the noise (kind of like a rattle) when the clutch is out and as soon as you push it in the noise goes away completely. Doesn't seem to affect gear changes though, although the noise has been there the whole time I've had the car so I don't have a basis for comparison. Mine has done about 204,000kms and I think the clutch was replaced with some kind of a heavy duty job at some stage by the previous owner, not sure how to check all that though.

I'll keep an eye on this thread because I'm keen to hear what's going on with yours if you're having it looked at. People have also said to me it could be a thruss bearing (if that's what it's called) and if your mechanic can't hear the noise, I'd take it somewhere else...and I'd definitely be taking it to a specific Land Rover mechanic because all other mechanics seem to NOT want to work on a Land Rover at all...can't think why

I trust Peter, he has diagnosed a few things in my car that I couldn't pin point, I'm hoping to hear from him this morning.

I'm thinking it only happens when it's hot.

Not poo-pooing your mechanic at all, but sometimes if they haven't worked on a particular type of car enough (and like I said a lot of mechanics tend to avoid Land Rovers) then they might not know what to listen for. Anyway your description of the noise sounds identical to mine and I know that it's always there, hot or cold. If I were you I'd just take a trip up there, hop in the car yourself and have a listen because you know what you're listening for. If it's there, just point it out to your mechanic. It's not any kind of negative reflection on him, just plain and simple if he hasn't had to deal with that particular problem before then he might not know what he's listening for.

Only works on Land Rovers, has a good reputation from guys on this forum who use him and he's a good bloke too

Took it for a drive this arvo, nothing, no vibration, no noises, nothing, drove perfect

Peter went over the car, checked the shafts, gearbox and tranny mounts, bell housing bolts, diffs, oil levels are all good, colour of the oil.

I'm confused, even my daughter noticed the vibration and noise from the passenger seat.
