As it is basically a bolt-in fit there's little reason for posting up a whole thread. The only detail is to fit all the accessories off the 3.5 to the 3.9 to make the install go easier.
I saw a while ago mention of someone who'd done the 3.5 to 3.9 conversion on their Disco S1 (I think).
I've spent ages trawling the site using the search feature but with no success.
Anyone able to post the link as I'm looking to swap out the 3.5 on my '89 Classic and would just like to get more insite to any major hurdles I may come across.
Many thanks in advance.![]()

G`day ,
You can find BigJon on the next page under AutoV8i Crank .
He has done a 3.5 RR to 3.9 Discovery ( fitted Disco 3.9 in 3.5 RR ) , removing the flapper stuff and fitting hotwire but also using the serpy belt/pulleys Etc from Disco .
If your talking Range Rover 3.9 pre 10 bolt heads and crank oil pump ,
Then as well as being 14 bolt heads as with the 3.5s the oilpump drive is the same and the V belts ETC the RR 3.5 and 3.9 other than capacity are almost the same as in straight swap of the lump and bolt ons .
The EFI systems are different but the 3.9 can run on flapper , specially if you use a computer from the UK vehicles that run full rich ( for want of better ) at full throttle unlike the AU ones .
The 3.9 can be grafted to the 3.5 loom , never done but know it has , or the hot wire loom can be fitted .
BigJon can tell you about this part and i`m not sure if he did something on here about his swap .
Cheers Peter
I did it two years ago, the thread should be somewhere.
Don't bother putting 3.5 flapper stuff onto the 3.9, just swap the whole lot over, it is very straightforward.
