2010 Defender drive train problems anyone else?

    Hi All
I am enquiring about any known drive train problems on 2010 Defenders? Mine has 2,600kms on the clock it started knocking when going around corners? Landrover assist sent the RACQ to check it out as I did not want to drive it in this condition. Nothing was found it did not do it again until 3 days later then no drive at all! The engine goes fine but the transmission does not drive at all? My wife was stranded at work and the Defender has been towed away awaiting inspection from a Landrover service centre. I have not driven with the diff lock on and only driven on a rough dirt road once! Can the diff lock be activated with out the dash light coming on? Has any one else had a simular problem? Additionally a work mate checked the car for her and found the transfer lever stiff or stuck and the transmission made a crunching sound when in reverse with the engine running it did not move during this time??? Hopefully it will be covered in warranty as this sounds expensive!!! The car has been going great until now.

Yes, there are a few issues that seem to effect them, mostly due to poor assembly or predelivery inspections. A few have had NO lube in the CV housing/s, some have had faulty transfer cases etc so I doubt it is anything you have done.

Hmmm, Stiggy I think that after $60,000 the owners will NOT be amused.

Time to bring back the LT95 and Salisbury I reckon

The rest of the vehicle is truck like, so why not fit a real gearbox and differentials

I seriously hope this issue costs LR tens of millions.

Maybe then they will add a little funds to their R&D.

    Hopeless.

Thanks for your input I'll keep you updated. Landrover have arranged a hire car for us to use in the meantime. Just as well the second car our 2003 x-trail has just broken down as well, it won't start!!!!

WOW LR, a 2010 model!?! What is your secret? You really are pure evil geniuses. As a builder, I sure wish I could charge more for each house while cutting corners and using cheaper materials every time; and when it falls down because I saved myself a couple of bucks, the clientele continue to line up to have me build them more because they believe in me and have faith that I will do right by them. What a greasy, sleazy, easy gig!

To the OP; I really hope this is the first and last issue you have. Hope you better luck than some in getting it sorted. shame LR.

Ah, but don't forget Landrover didn't make the gearboxes, and they are essentially the same as fitted to the transit....

It's been going on a while,i know a guy with an '07 Puma & it had two G/B's in the first year he had it.Nothing else has gone wrong with it since.

The one my son has hasn't been too bad, apart from body & chassis corrosion(repaired by LR under warranty). But there are many that have had numerous problems,it would be interesting to see the figures on the number that have problems to the number sold, and compare this to, say, the same figures for the D3/4.
The D3/4 is much more complicated, but seems to have far fewer problems.

Sure, the Puma is a commercial vehicle, but that is no excuse for poor quality control.
