Thread: how effective is D2 aircon?

i have never bothered to use it, and for the little difference i imagine it would have in the fuel economy i cant see the point of trading off getting the cab down to 21 degrees asap to save 10c. Having rear air helps get the car nice and chilled quicksmart on the 30+ days

Econ mode according to the owner's manual is a setting that switches off the compressor and then operates as a conventional venitlation system - i.e. NO cooling.

Therefore the 30 degree day is going to be inside as well as outside if you use Econ mode.

Econ mode on the ac will only run the fan, not the compressor.

If you want cooling, then you need to switch it to Auto.

What I tend to do is to run it on Auto for a while to take the heat out, then switch it to Econ. This tends to blow the residule cold air around and keeps thinks comfortable.

Of course, on a hot day, it stays on Auto the whole time...

I'm not trying to save money, but to avoid stressing the motor and provide more grunt in hilly conditions. Hopefully a service will allow the aircon to not have to work as hard in Auto mode to get down to temp...

The D2 aircon is very effective, though as already said Econ mode is only ventilation and heating. It will only provide ambient as its coolest.

I usually set the temp to 22 and set the fan speed to low/ medium after it has cooled down a bit, because using just auto mode can be annoyingly loud sometimes.

As stated,unlike many cars,the Econ in the D2 does not give a reduced output aircon,only fan on, no compressor ie no cooling only ambient temp. unless you select a higher temp from the console,then it is acting as a heater.

turn it off Auto,select fan speed and say 20 c face/and or feet and then works fine on aircon.
You don`t need it on Auto in every situation.

As stated, Econ is ventilation & heating ... Auto kicks in the compressor for A/C.

I'd call mine really effective ... and the rear A/C takes it all to another level ... chilly

Remember that the system is actually Climate Control ... hit Auto, then dial in the temp' thats most comfortable for driver/passenger. The A/C only draws a few HP from the engine when running. You get better fuel econ' driving with A/C on & windows up than you do A/C off and windows down.

There's bugger all difference in fuel economy with the AC on, and it's very effective, there's a big cabin to cool and the AC is probably the best in any car I've owned, the lowest setting is almost too cold even in summer, you find yourself switching it up to 17 or 18.
