'96 v8 ABS issues
Hi, having issues with my ABS, got a ’96 V8 and I find that sometimes the anti lock (orange) light is one and other times it isn’t.
When I start the car and the light is on, the brakes seem to be perfectly ok.
When I start the car and the light is off, the brakes seem to be rough when you apply pressure and this happens for a few goes before the light comes back on and they work properly.
As this car is new to me and I’m not familiar with this I’m wondering if it could be a major issue (brakes being important and all) or if its just something that happens and there is a relatively easy solution to it?
Any advice appreciated. Cheers,

If it comes and goes you might have a break in the ABS sensor wires in the front, because they twist when turning the wires break over time and give intermitant signals. Pat

my fix
I have just sorted my 300 tdi ( 1996) Abs. First off I would be checking that all the wheel sensors are fully seated. Just a gentle tap down. They self adjust to the correct distance as the wheels rotate. If your handy you can also check the resistance on the sensors and replace or repair any damaged wire. Some may say you cant fix broken wire but i did and it has not faulted since. Now the light. If your handy you can down load the faults by jumping wires and reading faults. A long and tedious job if you have had the light on for awhile. I believe the ecu stores faults until it is cleared. If you have a fault reader a quick job. If you don't have one and want to save money I took advice of a mechanical engineer and it worked for me. My friend stated to disconnect the battery and then turn the ignition on. His theory this would remove any memory (residual power) from the ecu thus wiping it. What can i say it worked for me and i have not had a light on for months. Remember the abs light will stay on on startup until you are moving at about 7 KPH then it should go off. " Always open to correction on explanations"
