Thread: Low Range operation is rough

I tried the low range out today in my 93 RRC for the first time and noticed that the gear changes in the auto felt quite rough and not smooth like when it's in high range. Is this normal? Also noticed some clunking noises when I backed off the throttle, not normal I gather

My old 83 RR did the same when changing in low range if I had put the foot down reasonably hard. This was normal.

You will probably find the clunking caused by drive line backlash which becomes more prominent when in low range.
