    Car hoist hire

    Hi,
Does anybody know if there are any places where you can hire the use of ideally a car hoist, or a pit, in the Perth metro area?
I'm looking to change the two transmission oil cooler lines, and having just very small carport its not really a practical proposition to crawl in under. Sure I could take it to a garage, but I like doing things myself. Not only that but I can have a good look underneath at the same time. Any leads would be appreciated.

Bit far away, got both a pit and hoist here

Why not just buy some ramps, people used to use these in the olden days I believe

Definitely car ramps. Plus a garage creeper (wheelie board). In a pinch a sheet of plywood is good too, you slide quite easily on it. You can just about go to sleep on a nice smooth piece of ply, and look like you're busy too.....

Unlikely to be able to find anyone to hire out the use of a hoist, or workshop these days due to insurance reasons. I used to enjoy showing interested owners the workings of their Landies on the hoist, but not allowed to do THAT anymore

You have to question the intelligence of those that make up these rules. Surely a hoist is the safest way to be under a vehicle - wether as someone employed to work under a hoist, an innocent bystander, or an interested enthusiastic amateur.

Years ago [20?] there used to be a workshop in Myaree where one could hire hoists, tools etc.Like they say probably gone due to liability aspect.
I also need to change the gearbox cooler hoses, only the top one is leaking at the present.Which I believe is the awkward one to reach on the gearbox end, would also like to replace the big end shells.
Probably your best bet would be to enquire at the Valley pub and see if a local 'cockie' has a ramp or pit.I used to work in the area and seem to remember ramps were fairly common on farms, even if only made from railway sleepers[Don't mention Health & Safety!]

I am in the process of doing mine now - don't forget that there are three hoses one in front of the radiator - perhaps you have done that already

I bought a stumpy 22mm open-end spanner to do the last hose; the one that is difficult to reach on the g/box and the only one that was leaking hopefully it will work.

I agree a hoist or ramp is the best way to do it,

Check with a couple of local car dealers. The dealers use those ramps that they run the cars onto for display and then they tilt to level once you drive on, they raise the car about 600mm or more depending on the size used, plus the car is level. Most car dealers have them sitting idle and can spare them for a weekend or 2, but you need a trailer and a couple of blokes to move them. I've borrowed them before and they didn't cost me anything. Worth asking around anyway. Might be easier than a full on hoist.
