Axles look like they have shifted 96 Disco 1

    Hi There,

have a 96 Disco Series 1. the other day i changed the tires for some better ones and once i finished putting them on i noticed they look like they are slightly shifted to the drivers side. almost as though the whole car has shifted on the axles.

i have read that a suspension lift can do this but this car is completely stock.

does anyone know if this is common, should i be worried? and if people have had this problem is it going to burn a hole in my back pocket?

    all help appreciated.

Have you used the same wheels as fitted originally or have you swapped wheels?
Is it the front or rear or both that seem to be offset.

If it's just the front, then it may need resettling after being in the air.

If the same wheels, then I can't see how that would happen.

If different wheels, you may have an odd set .

    Front or back?
If you had the car jacked up by the chassis, the front axle will move right as it droops down and the Panhard rod "shortens".

You have zee problem if the rear axle has shifted as the centre ball joint always keeps it in the same place relative to the chassis.
I am guessing you are talking the front and had it jacked up. If not you had better look at the bushes veeeery carefully.

i lifted the car on the axles not the chassis. (no suspension lift) it is both front and back. it literally looks as though the body of the car has moved one inch to the left (pasenger side)

ill have a look at the bushes, maybe they are a little worn!

it doesnt seem to affect driving and nothing feels loose or wobbles when you dirve, its very strang.

ill also check the tire sizes but im positive they are all the same cause i checked when i bought them. the rims are off the defender cause i think they look better, plus was easier than swapping the tires back and forth.

cheers for the help so far.

Rear axle sits slightly to the left on a lot of them

thanks everyone for the comments and reply. i have had a closer look today and it is only the front that has shifted. i have a mechanic with a little more experience than me coming in a week to check it all out.

i will be sure to post an update for future reference.

    thanks.
