    If you have the nous, tools and time may be economical to buy a going concern disco for a couple of gorillas, take what you want then sell the other bits to re-coup costs?

    Justin, is the difference between the V8 and the Diesel box more than just he bellhousing and input shaft arrangement? i.e., can one be adapted for the other, or is there more to be dealt with? Things like ratios etc?
    I ask only because it's hard to buy something in the knowledge that it may just be another expensive boat anchor, when I don't have a boat.

    A loose oil cooler line almost always means total destruction, gears, shafts and bearings. I have a customer who has recently wrecked(Crashed) his, trans was OK, would you like their contact details? They are in Hobart though.

    OK, that pretty much nails it. The oil was everywhere but inside the box.
    Yes, I would like to have the details. Hobart's only a short swim. One state I've yet to visit, shame on me.

    IIRC Ratios etc are very slightly different but not noticeably so on the road I wouldn't think. Input shaft and obviously bellhousing is different too. Everything else is the same.

    Come to think of it, your 300Tdi 380 didn't have an oil cooler from new if sold in this country, was it fitted when the new box was fitted?

    To be honest, I don't know. The car is my son's. Before he bought it, it had extensive work done for a previous owner by Fred Smith in Bayswater. It's one of the reasons he bought it. Trouble is, he saw the oil and thought, 'I'll fix that when I get home'.

    'Course, right at the moment, Gorillas are a bit rare. Just ask Dianne Fossey. Chimps might be OK.

    All jokes aside, yes, I can swap it. I just hate lying on my back with #%%% in my eyes and skin off my knuckles. You'd think that at my age I'd have worked out some way to get someone else to do it, wouldn't you? The money fairy somehow skips my place.
