    Turbo options for td5

    Hi all, ive been doing some looking around on the net for turbo upgrades for the D2 and obviously the only way to go would be a variable geometry type, however im hoping someone can answer me a few questions;

Bellautoservices.co.uk list the first bolt on VNT for the td5, requiring everything needed to fit for £625 + s&h, what i want to know is besides the turbo what else does it come with?

Is anything else changed to make the turbo work or does ot do the variable vein thing on its own?

Has anyone tried using a vnt turbo from a patrol zd30?

    Cheers,
    Ryan

VNT from BAS is unbolt old, bolt on new. This involves removing the downpipe, and the oildrain. Then:

    1. Cap vacuum lines on the boost modulator, you no longer use the vaccum boost modulator. In effect you go from ECU controlled boost to a "non-electronic" boost application.

    2. Take a line from post turbo "boosted" air to the actuator on the turbo. Take this from the existing port on the metal pipe before the intercooler, or take it from your EGR Bypass inlet (which of course you would have given you are going to do a VNT. Just weld a spigot onto the inlet.)

    Thats it.....but also consider:

    3. A boost box to stop overboosting/engine limiting. Best results from the dual chanel boost box from IRB. It does boost and MAF.

    4. Tune. Tombie or Kelvin (Disco Thrasher) can help you there.

    5. Intercooler and silicon hoses recommended.

And the results are smile inducing....I love it.

Thanks for the info, i have already turfed the egr with a td5alive kit and have samco xdb silicone hoses, im going to do the headgasket soon for the hell of it and i have steel dowels just in case it doesnt have them, and do the oil pump bolt, the next on the list was intercooler then vnt & tune. The bas sounds like a reasonable price so ill probs just go that way

    Inflatable Rubber Boat??
    International Rugby Board????

I'm following this with interest and see that BAS have their own boost box. Care to enlighten my ignorant soul on IRB??

Anybody with a manual TD5 with oversize tyres fitted a VNT Turbo as yet???
Does it cure the initial turbo lag that makes steep hill starts a difficulty in the D2??? Already have ECU upgrade and intercooler upgrades done.
Defenders wouldnt have the same issue, our TD5 Defender has different gearing to the D2.

    Google is your friend

But for the lazy : www.irbdevelopments.com/adjustable_box.html

For whatever reason, the website appears down right now, but this is the place.
