Question TD5 Viscous Fan Bearing stuffed?

    Hi All,
Just wondering how much play there can be in the bearing IN the viscous fan hub (not the one in the timing cover). I can 'wobble' my fan blades a bit... but not 100% sure if I always could!

    Dave

Can someone 'wobble' their fan fore-and-aft and tell me what movement they find?

Not TD5 specific but once I notice rocking movement in the viscous unit it is usually past its best. Mine has about 1mm slop at the rim of the hub and hasn't shown any major problems but we haven't had much 40+ weather yet. I will probably get a new one for next summer together with a major service on the rad.

Yeah mine maybe a bit sloppier but no leak. Wondered if they tend to 'let go' or just rattle about more and more. Not cashed up at the moment and it's a toss up between the fan or the steering box which gets changed first!

    Cheers,

    Dave
