    ProVent questions.

    G'Day all.
Some provent questions. My ProVent has been fitted to my '04 TD5 Disco for about 2 thousand k's now and I am only just seeing oil in the drain line which at the moment is just some clear 12.5mm I.D plastic tubing with the non return valve and a plug at the bottom. On a recent trip back from Port Macquarie, there was a little over an inch of oil in the bottom of the drain tube!!! Wow, the intercooler must be half full of oil!!!. How much oil is normal for a provent to filter out?. Also, I am keen to see some pictures of oil return line plumbed into the turbo oil return. Also, how long do the elements last for before they need replacing. I'll post some pics of my instalation soon.
    Regards
    Robbo.

How much oil it filters is really down to how much it "breathes" thru the PCV line.
What you have in the line is pretty much normal. Mine took a while to soak it up but now fills a 20cm length of 13mm poly inside 3000k's.
Lifespan is estimated at about 1500hours operation but there are different factors that may shorten or extend that figure.

Have a look in the projects section as I think Isuzurover has a tute on an install in a Deefa that has a drain line tapped into the oil return.

    Cheers

    Andrew

Has anyone fitted or have pictures of a Provent fitted to a 300tdi Defender - squeezed into the space between the air cleaner, air hose to turbo and the engine?

Ideally if I fit one I'd prefer not to have to remove it / make the process of changing the air filter difficult ...

I'd also read that the length of the tubes connected to it doesn't matter - has anyone seen more exotic mountings other than behind the A/C Compressor?

Yeah, already read through the linked threads, most of the installs are to disco's or Td5 defenders

Yes, including those - I'd looked at them, and was calling out to see if anyone else has mounted it elsewhere, as those partially obstruct changing the air filter.

I read in one of the posts that the oil draining back from the Provent still contained fine soot particles which are particularly harmful.

So to me why go to the effort of draining/plumbing the oil back into the sump just catch and dump it?

The oil drained from the provent will contain no more soot than is already in your oil. More importantly, it will mainly be mainly the lighter fractions of oil which find their way to the provent.

re the 1500 hour service life of the filters, I would assume they could just be washed - in turps/meths?
