    Excessive halfshaft wear

    Afternoon all,

    I am having a problem with my 1995 110 csw 300tdi.

Basicly I seem to be wearing out my halfshafts unbelieveably quickly at the drive flange end. Has anyone else had this problem? Ive only got 10,000km out of the last set. It is the greesed wheel bearing axle and not the oiled bearings.

    Thanks,
    H

p.s. if mod think this would be better asked in the defender section, please feel free to move!

    10,000km is awfully fast

    Is it both sides ?

    What make of axles ?

    OE or aftermarket ?

It sounds more like excessive bearing play or a bent stub axle.

Ultimately the only real fix for drive flange wear is oil lubed hubs IMO. [edit] If everything else is straight

it does seem to be fairly equal on both sides with the smallest difference between the two. Its a salisbury rear axle.

If your shafts are good quality, then as Rick stated you more than likely have a bent axle housing. Get the rear wheel alignment checked, and if ok remove or damage with a hot poker the oil seals from the inner end of the stub axles and fit proper oil seals to the hubs before fitting new shafts and drive flanges.
    Wagoo.
