    300 tdi performance

    Hi All,

I've just had the old beast tuned up ('96 130 tdi), I think the pump was fiddled with and possibly the boost as well. In short its never had as much power and is going really well----exept at "high" speed. It easily gets to 100-105 kph and then has no more guts. My question is can you have low end performance and also at the top, I was out done by a FESA 130 tdi and figured mine is lighter and should at least keep up???? is there an answer?

    regards
    Mal

Diesel Gas? I had my 300tdi pump tweaked and dynoed and that was pretty good for couple of years, but after getting dgas it keeps pulling easily up to 120, but thats as far as I take my tractor haha

No not diesel gas, but before the tune up it would get to 120 with a little urging!

    Thanks

G/Day Guys, A 130 Tdi Deefer with the 300, Stock standard should have no probs winding the speedo up to the stopper on a slight downhill run !....Mine Will...LOL

Maybe go a larger exhaust, your pushing more into the engine it has to get out somewhere

I found after fitting a 3 inch I can wind mine right out to 100 in 4th

During the 'tune' were the valve clearances adjusted?? This does slow them down a LOT if they aren't right.

A Defender does push a lot of air and the drag increases exponentially with speed, it's a logarithmic scale.
As BlackKnight calls them, "the shed on wheels"

Of course being burned off by another Tdi Defender is a bit dispiriting.

Surely you would check the loud pedal is operating the injector pump to the max stop. Has it been adjusted? You should be able to see 4000 rpm before the governor hits.

Yep check throttle cable, mine was not properly adjusted and never reached end stop.
It easily will do 120km/h now, even on a hill. Thats when the bloody speed alarm starts chiming. Must be a factory fitted speed alarm.

I must admit, the dgas has made a huge difference. It made a total slug into something that now keeps up with traffic and no need to rev as much but use the torque more.

go the gas to all 300 tdi owners.
