    Dual Brakes on a IIA?

    Hey folks,

I'm in the middle (literally....down to the chassis now, so I've turned the corner and will be putting it all back together soon) of refurbishing my 1965 IIA 88. I have been thinking about fitting a dual system when I re-install the brakes, as I wouldn't be completely picky about originality if I got safer brakes. All I have read so far involves fitting later, dual master cylinders with a new pedal box and servo booster. Is it possible to fit a dual master cylinder without servo assistance and the 180 degree turnaround in the master cyliner setup?

    Cheers,

    John

Hi John, I am interested in the reason that you would put dual master cylinders on the brakes??? If you increase the volume of oil from the master cylinder to you brakes you are reducing the mechanical advantage hence pushing harder on the pedal. I learnt to drive in a 1970 IIA 109 6 cylinder Table Top. It had really good brakes for a series II !! It had the original master cylinder with a remote vacuum booster mounted on the Falcon 200 that powered it. You could try a County or Defender Pedal box, servo and master cylinder. Not sure how the bias would go for drums front and rear though. I was going to try this on my 1957, 109inch Table top one day when it gets rebuilt.

Good question. I've actually always been pretty happy with my brakes. It's just an idle thought, to go for a more modern system (or at least parts thereof) to create completely separate front and rear circuits. I am most likely to stick with what I have.....

    Thanks,

    John
