    Detroit Locker or True Trac.

Hi all, I'm after a bit of advice regarding the performance difference between a Detroit locker a true trac for my Disco 1. I know one is a full locker and the other is an LSD but are they chalk and cheese on the tracks or not much difference.

The reason for this is I ordered a Detroit Locker from Lucky8 but they sent a True Trac by mistake. There solution to the problem is for me to sell it over here and then purchase another Detroit from them. Not exactly idea.

So I'm tossing around a few ideas.

1: Sell it and get the Detroit Locker.
2: keep it and convert it to a front configuration and put it in the front. Then get the Detroit for the rear. This will cost a lot more but probably something I was going to in future.
3: Just put it in the rear and live with it.

I'm thinking that since I already have the True Trac I might just put it in the rear and use it. This would mean I could probably get away with using the standard axles and save a bit of money there.

What I want to know from people that may have tried both is that would I be short changing myself by putting the True Trac in instead of the Detroit. Is the True Trac still a great Modification and transform my car or would the Detroit leave it in it's dust. Is it worth the effort to get what I order in the first place or are they both close in performance.

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Cheers, David.

    David,

What did you pay for it?

I'm looking for a TT for the D2 (same part I think) so would possibly buy it from you.

    Cheers

The TT really shines with the TC of a D2 which "activates" it better.

TTs like a bit resistance to operate at their best which a TC system automatically provides!

I would try fitting it to the front as-is.

Do you have ETC? In which case there will be little difference. If no ETC, then a huge difference.

It depends on how hard you play. A TT will be a definate improvement, esp with the TC "controlling" it so to speak. Downside of the Detroit is you will need axles as if your std axles break (when?) they will probably take the diff with it.

Fit to rear and see how it is. Then either get another for the front or a detroit and swap TT to front.

I did not know we were able to get a Ture Trac locker for the D1s, is there any down side in having one in the front?
I have an ARB locker in the rear and good flex, but wondered if there would be any great advantage with a front TT or is another ARB one and Maxi Axles the way to go?
I dont really want to make the transfer case too bigger weak point, will we be likely to do this if we have 265mm tires?

Even in the most difficult terrain I only used my ARB front locker maybe 20 minutes in 18 months.

The TT will always be assisting and doesn't turn steering to crap

Most of the time a front locker is off so you can steer! I won't be doing it again...

Either TT F&R or TT front/Detroit Rear + Axle upgrade

I would go the ARB. There is no way you could make the LT230 the weak point - it is the strongest part of the car. People have run 40"+ wheels with LT230s...

Come up north and drive some tracks with the GCLRO. All of us needed front lockers as often as rear the other weekend.
