The 2 coil packs feed half the cylinders on each side each ie 2 odd cylinders and 2 even cylinders. If 1 coil pack is bad it should still fire on the other cylinders.

hey all,
The D2 V8 carked it in the driveway today, would turn over but not start.
I have been thinking that it has been lacking a bit if oomff when starting over the last two weeks.
Had to tray it to the work shop.
So its not the fuel pump, not the crank sensor, no relays.no computer problems
Next is the coil packs (2) of.
Any help much appreciated, does one coil pack feed of the other so if there is a problem things just shut down or would miss firing be expected?
Hope this is the culprit.

motor turns over quick but no firing apart from a week effort here and there
Does the car computer read a fault with the ignition packs and things fail to start?
Its hooked up to the diagnostics computer.
Replaced ignition packs. feeling pretty lost now.

Changed crank sensor and did'nt change things![]()
Is it sparking when turning over?
Is fuel definetely getting to the rail?
Could it be the throttle position sensor?
back to basics...
Remove the air filter and inspect the air intake.
test all the plug leads with a test plug.
if the packs are all sparking correctly
Bleed the fuel rail, and pressure test that, Just because the pump is making noise does not mean you are getting fuel at 30psi in the rail,
put a bipolar lead and a resistor across one of the injectors and crank it over.. (make sure he led lights on both 5+12v first) if that doesnt flicker when you crank it your either not getting signal to the ECU to tell it that the engines turning and wants some fuel OR signal from the ECU to the injectors...
have you tripped the inertia sensor?

Hasn't a Thor got a camshaft position sensor that tells the ECU what cylinder the engine is on for starting?
My understanding is that refusal to start is usually the failure of the camshaft position sensor.(if not the crank sensor)
