Shaun it would of been a waste of time. The tool I picked up at 8.30am, fed it in and could see the valve but not dowell.
I then fixed the magnetic arm to the light and went in again. not a foreign object to be found.
the camera then spotted it as I had it out of the hole and it didn't go down where I saw it go, it bounced out and was in a hidden spot on the out side of the manifold.
Whilst trying to retrieve it i knocked it under neath and it was on top of the valley gasket. fed the camera down with the magnetic attachment and retrieved the dowell. All in under an hour. taking a punt and pulling the manifold off and all the sequential gas stuff would take a person like me with handycaps all day. Now I cab just refit everything.

I reckon now everyone knows you have such a useful tool you will have LOTS more friends

Better decide on your standard rate for retrieval of dropped bits!

I suggest you locktight, super glue , or knurl /punch the dowel now to make it tight.
One good thing- you have alerted me to be Veeeery careful next time I take mine off.

Hi Phillip, it's usually in fading light even though I has a 100watt spot light beaming into the engine bay, and it's when your tired and some one comes and distracts you that these little things going boing and get lost.
One thing I have to get used to is parking on a plastic tarp, I don't know how many times I have dropped or something has fallen on to my gravel driveway.
Try finding a dark screw or washer within a billion surrounding aggregate stones

Old magnet from a big speaker is very useful for that...
