Rocky mountain parabolic kit - u bolt issues

    Hey all,

I'm currently fitting the rocky mountain kit to my series 3 109.

The rear was fine, no issues.

Come to the front springs though and the thread on the u bolts is to short.. the nuts hit bare rod before the thing is tight.

    Has anyone struck this?
I could space it out with some washers or something but am worried about the security of it.

    Any thoughts?
I need to get it sorted ASAP so I can go away at Easter, nothing ever easy!

    Cheers,
    Ash

On the front there should be two different length ubolts depending on which side they are. Any chance they might be on the wrong side? But there should be no issues with a washer or two underneath the nuts anyway.

Hmm I didn't even check tbh, I'm pretty sure they were all the same.
    Ill check tomorrow.

The install doc didn't mention anything about it unfortunately.

If I have to use washers I thought I might weld a bead around their edge once they in place - should stop then from vibrating loose.

If you mean weld the washer to the U-bolt don't. It could create stresses in the metal and cause the U-bolt to fail

I wouldn't go near them with a welder, no need to at all.
If they are nyloc nuts they won't come off.
I put a set on my S3, not Rocky Mountain but some other brand and the u bolts were actually longer than they needed to be, they were very generous with thread. You may also find that once they settle in you will have to nip them up a few turns.
I will be interested to know what you think of the ride with them.

    Cheers, Mick.

mine look like this on the short side

cant see there would be any issue if you used a couple of machine washers to pack then to where you need them

No I just meant a couple of tacks to keep all the washers together, I have had to put 4 of them to space it enough and was worried about them moving around.
    Seems OK for the moment.

Didn't weld in the end, im hassling the supplier to resolve. The bolts are not suitable, plain and simple.

Mine have nowhere near as much thread as yours do Incisor!

If they are nyloc nuts they won't come off.
They're not, you get standard nuts, pretty deep ones but not Nyloc.

    The ride seems good.
I wasn't as blown away as I thought I would be but definitely an improvement.
I haven't been off road yet, I suspect thats where they will shine.
