    Smile TIE ROD ENDS???

    Hi everyone

i'v machiened up some new heavy heavy duty steering arms and tracking arm up but i would like to get some different tierod ends like maybe nissan are toyota ect?

Reason for is that for the tap to cut the thread for the rover ones is a wierd size 17.5mm? and will cost a fortune!!!!!!

If i can find another tierod end then it will be easier.

When i have them completed i will post the pictures up and anyone wanting a pair just message me.

    Thanks Adam

If it is a normal series Land Rover steering rod then the thread is 11/16" x 16 tpi NS. This and 11/16" x 18 was a common size for tie rod ends. Taps and dies are readily available in both LH & RH and are not expensive. PM me for information if interested.

Adam,I assume you mean steering 'rods' not 'arms' ? Not sure about Nissans but I had a scary experience with an old 40 series Toyota, when the tie rod end on the trackrod fell apart at 70kmh. This never happens with genuine LandRover TREs no matter how worn.At any rate Toyota and Nissan ball pins have a different taper to LandRover so what you might save on the purchase of a tap you'll probably more than spend on a tapered reamer for the LandRover steering 'arms'. Actually genuine LandRover TREs are very good quality with machined and hardened ball pin and hardened ground full hemisphere ball seats.
