Fuel Line Problem - TD5 (Disco II)

It's been a month now since I rebuilt the head end of the motor. All seems good so I am happy about that. The one mistake I did make was to break the fuel line connector to the fuel pressure regulator. I had a mod made to fix this problem but I am not that confident about it. The fuel line itself is like a piece of trickle hose really with a rubber surround. I have a brass joiner installed with clamps.

Has anyone had a similar problem and can you recommend a way of fixing this problem without the need to spend $700 or more for a new line with connectors?

Hi, I had a similar problem with a Defender about 5 years ago when I damaged a fuel line after dropping down a tank to disconnect the lines. I repaired this with a brass olive type fitting and it has been OK ever since,

Do you have a problem with it leaking, lack of fuel supply or is it a confidence thing?

Replacing the fuel line will be near on impossible without lifting off the body shell. Before you buy one for $700 (should be more like $2 per meter plus fittings), PM us as I have a few on the shelf you are welcome to for the freight cost, but as I said above, very difficult to replace.

    Thanks for the reply Erich.

I have a brass olive also. I have been smelling something like diesel vapour from under the front wheel and that's why I am still a bit suss about the whole thing. This evening I have re-done the join and I am of the suspision that the clamp I am using is not providing a perfect seal. It's a screw clamp and i may need to find a better option.

Erich, I did investigate underneath and you are so right!!! What a bitch of a job. If I am forced into it I will certainly get back to you.

    Cheers,
    Vince.

the olive union style connectors are as good as you're going to get for joining the plastic fuel lines on the TD5, as a side of the road fix you can use the slip join ones that they use on truck air fittings.

with the hose correctly prepared and done correctly this is the best repair you can achieve.

are the quickest way but generally dont provide a great long term solution.

I did the same thing till I realized they are a push clip thing

I have a brass fitting with the olive over the plastic fuel line(rubber striped back).
This then goes to high temp/high preshure fuel hose and double clamped onto the cooler.
    No leaks/smells/issues so far.
    Cheers, Kyle
