    BW transfer chain replacement

    Yet another question with regard to the BW drive chain (RRC transfer).
    I'm in the process of reconditioning the box with a kit from Ashcrofts and a chain sourced for considerably less than their price. The chain arrived today, and after a test fitment I have found the new chain to be so tight that I'm having considerable trouble getting the sprockets in place with the chain on. Does anyone know a trick to this? I am considering warming up the chain to get some extra length but am concerned this may result in cracking the casing as it cools and shrinks.

    It's always a problem even with a loosish chain like a RRC timing chain.
    I know its basic but ensure that the chain is parallel when placing both sprockets on at the same time. any deviation and it will tighten dramatically
    You will probably find once it is on it will be looser than you think so I wouldn't be concerned about heating it to say 100C.
    PITA.
    But then I have never done it.LOL.

    As Phil said. You need to make sure alignment is perfect.
    If you sourced a "cheap" chain, this may well be part of the problem too. It's a key component and the only thing linking everything together so one area I wouldn't skimp on ever.
    And if you need to 'nudge' it on, rubber mallet only and very gently.

    they are cheap for a reason !

    the cheaper pattern ones are no good, they are made wring, the pitch is 0.5", should be 0.5033, ours are genuine morse which is why they are more expensive, if you struggle you can get it to fit but we found them noisy,
