    300tdi rebuild- ACL bearings

    Hello from England!

I am part way through rebuilding a 300tdi engine for my 1997 defender 90 and require some advice about ACL bearings.

A good friend of mine who builds alot of engines for rally cars swears by ACL duraglide bearings so he got in contact with the UK importer to see if ACL duraglide bearings are availble for a 300tdi. Today I had an email from my friend to inform me that the UK importer had the bearings I wanted in stock, however he found out that the main bearings are fully grooved and not half grooved like the original Land Rover items. I have read on the internet about the advantages/disadvantages of fully grooved bearings but I would like to hear from anybody who has used these bearings.

    Part numbers:

Main bearings set (first undersize 010) 5M2698
    Thrustwashers 1T1542
Conrod Bearing set (first undersize 010) 4B2690

I hope this is the correct part of the forum to ask this sort of question in, I apologise in advance if it isn't!

    Regards James

I've used the rod bearings in a Tdi as I also found when building Formula Ford engines years ago that we had the best results with ACL, (consistency, wear, etc) although some claim they are a tad too hard I never found that.

The Tdi ACL rod bearings were patterned exactly the same as the OE bearings. (Glyco ?)

Haven't replaced the mains so can't comment.

Thanks for your reply rick130, I have also read on the internet that some people think that ACL bearings are too hard.

I think I might try posting this in the defender section to see if anyone else has used ACL bearings in a 300tdi.
