Sounds like an issue with the inertia switch. Its a "kill switch" in event of an accident.
Its located on the rhs of the firewall as you look at the motor.Press the reset switch on it to see if it fixes the problem.

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here but not to 4wd and trekking.
Bought a 04my td5 classic (used of course, but in good condition) about a month ago.
Last 2 days the above problem has arisen and is becoming embarrassing driving along with the horn beeping once every few seconds - and I think the hazard lights flash too.
Any ideas as to cause and moreover, the fix......thanks.......Jimbo

The door locking is a saftey feature, locks over 40kph.If you dont want it it can be switched off, either via the dealer(expensive) or by a friendly local AULROian with a Nanocom(a few beers)

Thanks...
My doors are locking @ under 10km/hr and sometimes relock after exitng the vehicle when stopped without human intervention...a bit scary actually. Then they just keep trying to relock as one drives along, then the horn joins in after 20 seconds or so, beeping every few seconds...what the..!
Have a look in "Electronic Diagnostics" its a seperate area to deal with electronic issues.(adjacent to Tech chatter)
There is a list there and also a link to Members With Diagnostic Equipment.
Its a list of members who have bought their own diagnostic gear and are happy to help others out.Great way to meet a fellow Landy owner over a beer
I have my own but Im WAY to far away to be of any help.
Goodluck

I'm going to vote for the inertia switch as well. Usually takes a whacking great bump to set it off, normally.
Ours went off most of the way up the Birdsville Track. Did half the trip withthe hazard lights flashing as we got very sick of stopping, turning off the engine and going again. We have a D1, and the doors locking thing did not happen though.
just curious does the '95 TDi disco have this feature,The door locking is a saftey feature, locks over 40kph.
i have no remote locking just the central drivers side one and no alarm
forgot to say mine doesn't lock by itself at any speed

Not the inertial switch, on the D2 if this switch were at fault the vehicle would not start after a shutdown as this switch disables the fuel pump via ECU to prevent pumping fuel into a potential fire. It will not cause the doors to lock as this defeats a purpose of the switch.
Given that all was ok for the first month, I would suggest the fob has a problem, either with tired batteries, corrosion, water or dirt ingress, the button jammed down or maybe the circuit board damaged from stress loads of stepping, sitting on. If you were given both fobs leave the current one at home and try using the other one and see what happens.
The vehicle books should also contain an emegency key access code. (EKA) This wil let you open the vehicle with the key and after turning the key the correct amount of times to the left and then the right(like a safe combo) accepts this key as the rightful, unit, disarming the alarm and allows you to use the car normally until you lock it with the fob again. This feature is for when your fob battery dies throuh old age or swimming etc. If you use this procedure and the problem is not present then the answer is definately in the fob.
If you were not given the books make sure you get a member or dealer to use Nanocom or other to locate this code for you so you can write it down for a rainy day.
The locking/alarm functions are controlled by the BCU,(under the l/h passenger footwell kick panel). it is almost impossible for the BCU (Body Control Unit) to change its settings without external influence. Check the earth points and battery terminal connections are secure first. As already stated the BCU can be programmed to auto lock above 20-30kmh, however this is not acompanied by lights and horn so this is not your issue.
If you have no joy with the fob and after checking earth points and find yourself needing an Auto Elec. check back here before spending the cash. Do not swallow any statement about poor LR electrics, D2 electrics are Bosch and very very good.
Has it been through deep water (ie into the cabin covering the floor) or does it leak?
cheers
Thanks Strangy....
A fellow disco-owner suggested the fob last night and on inspection the unlock pad is damaged (cracked) so you may be correct. I will check the EKA tonight and sadly, only received one key but I did get all the books and those codes.
As you mention the first 3+weeks it was a dream but then started the self-locking routine to now it is obsessive about it. Just this lunchtime, when I got out of the Disco and before I had a chance to close the door the system re-locked itself.
I have removed the horn's fuse so that only the interior buzzer sounds, instead of the horn as well - so I feel like less of an amusement to others.
Can the fob electronics function outside of the key body..? I did check the battery first off, but it is fine, and it was spotless inside, and no, this Disco has never hard a hard time off road or gone for a swim as ar as I can tell or have been told by the service mechanics who faultlessly maintained it...it was primarily a tow vehicle for a caravan and fitted with electric brakes etc. from Toowoomba and Tamworth.
