Radiator Question - And who to flush in Perth..

Hi Guys

Just embarking on my mission to renew the cooling system and do multiple repairs that have needed doing for some time on the deefer.. including the installation of a honking great intercooler...

I have the Raditor out and noticed there were 4 pipes.. large inlet (assuming its the top?), large outlet, overlflow type pipe and one other mystery one that plugs in at the front of the rad (front as in closest to the bumper)

i have flushed the rad through to see if any dirt has come out, which it hasnt, however the connection for the smaller pipe at the front has nothing come out and doesnt seem to be able to let any water in either...

Any idea what the function is?, and if it is meant to be free flowing? i assume it is, but as its at tghe very bottom of the rad i also assume it could be blocked!

Finally, anyone know any good people to flush a rad? ideally around wangara / joondalup area? or is buying a new one best?

A bit out of your way obviously but I've used prestige radiators in welshpool with goof success (although I know a couple of members in Perth have had issues with them)

I would get the rad recored. I think its worht the additonal $'s if you overhauling the cooling system.

worth it over buying a new one?

I can get a non gen one at reasonable $$ but have NO idea how much a recore would be!

Still mystified by the additional pipe too...

I suppose that depends on your new price. Recore was aprox $500 for my 5row Rangie rad

wow... the price was considerably less than that... nearly half.... i dont know how the non gen ones are compared to the genuine ones?

No idea how the non gen units fare? I'd imagine a recore on td5 rad would be cheaper as they are quite a bit smaller than a 5row rangie rad.

At the end of the day the recores arent done with "genuine" cores so I suppose if the non genuine core and assembly quality is alright it should be okay.

I get a bit nervous, spending bare minimum on components like Rad's that can cause big dollars in repairs/recovery if they where to fail.

wow... just spoken to some places round wangara... they dont even know what a defender is! cheap for rodding tho... at around 95-100 but they cant guarantee not to break the tanks.... and they claim the tanks arent available..

Spoke to express in Welshpool and they seem to know what they are on about... and not badly priced... but may work out better just to buy new...

so should i risk it being rodded... or just buy new...?

Yeah i'm not trying to save too much money... just the genuine ones are plenty more...

Express did say that there were some very dodgy non gen ones around at the mo..

I'll vouch for Express Radiators as well.
Did a good job on a leaky Radiator over a Easter weekend a few years ago.
He seemed to have a bit of knowledge on Landies and backed it up with a good price.
