    V8 Head gaskets.

If we assume heads are flat and no heat issues,
what else makes a head gasket fail?

If we also assume the block face is flat with no imperfections.
Too much compression, too lttle torque or uneven torque on the head bolts or studs. Incorrect coolant type or dilutiion causing corrosion and fail, poor installation cleanliness/ technique. Faulty / low quality/ incorrect gasket.

    cheers

The question then is- How did it fail?
    Compression ring?
    water to cylinder?
    Water to outside?
What sort of gasket? tin? OEM composite? after market composite?

The other interesting thing is that some of the old Merlin aircraft engines didn't use head gaskets!!!!
