It might be oil mixed with the coolant. If so, your entire cooling system will need to be flushed out. You may need to replace some hoses if it's really bad.
Hi guys.
After blowing my head gasket on my TD5 and fixing it all seems OK however I have a grey muddy residue in my collant tank. It doesn't have a smell but it looks like grey poo and has a greasy texture. Does anyone know why this would happen or what would cause it? How do I stop it?
Cheers,
Vince.

I had an incling that could be the case as the head problem was quite severe. You refer to hose replacement. Why is that?

After having the head rebuilt and a new gasket installed is it possible that the oil contamination problem could be current? As in is there a possibility oil could be leaking into the cooling system?![]()
Most likely to be OLD oil contamination.
I recently changed my coolant after a repairer used the WRONG green coolant.
Was replacing the radiator/thermostat at the same time.I flushed HEAPS of water thru including hot run drives with water only.
Still found GREEN coolant in the system when I pulled it to bits.
I doubt you still have an issue, you still need to get the old oil out.Lots of water flushes coming up.

Thanks for the replies. I did a big flush today and checked the hoses. It seems I have a bit to do yet.
