I saw that ad as well - I have an identical Freelander for 7 years and have never heard of a body control module. There is a Engine Control Module, there is an ABS Control Module and there is a Security System module and they all talk to each other but I have never heard of a Body Control Module.

Also - most ads for cars cover the usual sort of thing such as good condition, never been offroad etc - bit why would they say never been drowned or never been near salt water - that rings alarm bells for me - maybe it did get dunked just a little.

I would not think if it was an ECU it would be worth $4000, and if he can get one for $180 well why does he not get it put in so the car is drivable - would make the car a whole lot easier to sell.

I smell something smelly but an inspection would clear any doubts.

Make sure it still has the VCU connected and ask when it was replaced. Also any noises from the IRD.

They have a CCU (central control unit) It doses do functions of a BCU. It controls lights, wipers, security etc.
It is located behind the passenger compartment fuse box and will need programing when replaced.
Unsure of a price, do some ringing around for a 2nd hand one.

It has been either sold or pulled - did you buy it?
