    V8 Gurgling Noise

    Hiya,

I've seen a few thread's on this issue, I've recently replaced the head gaskets, ARP studs, new stat, new rad cap, filled it up with 20/80 water coolant mix.

I only get the gurgling for about 5 - 10 secs, normally after one / two minutes of start-up, stat opens and it goes away, i've squeezed the hoses etc, no water in the oil, or pressuration of the cooling system, no overheating, is it just a bad case of traped air in the system?

    Cheers,

    Jim

As it's a V8, it'll be one of two things.

Either it's the fuel going into the engine or the cash being drained out of your wallet.

Seriously though, it could well be an air lock. Depending on which Land Rover you have, some like to have the nose in the air to help them bleed. I know my P38a does at least.

    ,

When i start to re-bleed, i will wrap a little PTFE tape around the threads to make sure its not drawing any air in.

Is the heater matrix a dash out job, or can it be done in situ?

its more a point of making sure that the plastic bypass valve is working all good.
that the thermostat has the little hole at the top.
that the pressure cap is sealing. 15psi = a boiling temp of about 120 deg.

and personally i keep the car level, front up i think you can trap air in the top of the radiator and the top of the pump housing

Yes, i have the new stat located with the hole & pin located @12.

If you mean the plastic bypass piping, on top of the rocker cover my Disco doesn't have that, two rubber hoses straight in & out of the heater matrix.

I was thinking about installing it, so i could link out the heater matrix, as all that controls the heaters inside the car are dampers.

What i might do is to syphon coolant out of the rad bleed hole, and slowly re-fill.

Or am i missing something else.
