The pivot point on the clutch fork is a ball head bolt - that's what has worn through the clutch fork. The recommended permanent fix is to weld a strip of steel across the back of the fork ( Preferably a new one )

Get yourself a workshop manual on CD (Called RAVE, look in SHOP section of this site). As with all cars - you have to drop either the engine or gearbox to get at the fork. I've done it on the street by myself ( by removing the handbrake drum, then the transfer and then the gearbox.)

Think about doing the job right by machining the flywheel, getting a new valeo clutch kit, and replacing seals on the gearbox and transfer case.

langy, what was your car then? which engine/gear box? did you take any pictures of the whole process? I just can't imagine the best way to take off the gearbox and transfer box (should it be done separately, or shall I treat them as a whole?)

Having read your other post about your 87 RRC, this post about a 300tdi disco clutch isn't relative to your car, since the v8 clutch fork is a different design that generally is trouble free. I'll answer your questions in your other post.
