Who knows about engine mounts ?

I've been trying to diagnose an unusual vibration in the engine, noticable in particular at low revs. I noticed this apparent split in the engine mount on the weekend.

Question is it a split or is it tapered in some way ?

    Cheers
    Dave

this isn't a good angle, but it looks like this mount could be past its use by date. try getting a large pry bar in there an see if you get much movement, what area do you live in, i may be able to have a look at it for you.

Thanks Jake, but I am in Brisbane, a bit of a drive from Perth if your info is correct.

So you can't tell if that gap is meant to be there or not ?

Re the split, I'm pretty sure that's what a new one looks like, too. Mine are less than 30,000km old and they look like that. So did the old ones.

However, the polished bits of metal in the second pic makes it look like there's been some contact.

you need to test it, big lever bar, lever in every possible direction if you have excessive movement or the inner and outer metal parts of the mount touch then mount is stuffed.
i would also check all pipes and cables for security as these can lead to vibration and noise.
