    3.9 v8 into 3.5v8 County

Hi all. Just picked up a new project. 85 v8 county. Now the fun stuff starts.I have a 3.9 v8 out of my Disco1 just been rebuilt and worked. I think it will fit with brackets taken of the old 3.5. Just don't know about the fuel injection system, Wiring loom, and computer. I have a complete Disco 1 to take what ever off i need but don't know what. Is there anyone in Vic that dose the fuel injection conversions ?. Also dose the rear diff off a Disco 1 fit the county ?.

The fuel injection on a D1 has its own wiring harness and needs relatively few connections to make it work. You need a solid 12 volt supply and of course the EFI fuel pump and tank off the Disco to make it go. Should be a DIY job.

easy enough to do but you will have some engineering issues as its an uprated engine so you should by rights also be fitting the equivelent brakes from the donor vehicle (disc/disc all round) but providing it still brakes adequately you may get around that with just a brake test.

its drop in but you will have to fit the EFI fuel lines and pump,

the existing pickup fed with and external EFI fuel pump from an early holden will do nicely. if you dont have a return line just tap one in going back to the tank-fillerneck breather.

Check the fuel lines for both suitability with ethanol fuels and pressure (no using 17psi carby fuel line for the pump-rail line).

No, your County will have a Salisbury diff which is a completely different setup and is also much stronger than a Disco diff.

Why not run the 3.9 on the carbs from the 3.5?

Of course if you don't won't swirl which will lead to stalling out when low on fuel and during cornering etc, you'd also add a swirl pot

14CUX is a very simply, almost standalone wiring loom

Thanks all for the feed back. looks like it can be done. Need to hook up the fuel injection system as i want to run injected gas as well. As for the rear diff, i need to up grade to disc brakes and my old Disco 1 already has diff lockers installed.
I think i have some fun times ahead.
Thanks again for all the replies.

If you are still running the original monstrosity of a heater/aircon unit, you might need to run the plenum backwards with the air intake from the driver side. Works fine, but looks a fair bit uglier with the idle control and throttle linkage at the front etc. This also means the rocker covers are swapped around with the filler at the rear of the driver side and the breather/filter at the passenger side rear.

Let me know if you want pics etc.

    Cheers
    Andre
