Thread: Tdi timing 1-tooth out? Easiest way to check?

    i would look at the head gasket too, as there is a thread here that suggests they fail around the 250k mark .
    it happened to me when i bought a 258k '95 model, it was on the road for a fortnight then off road getting the head done (turners, brilliant) as well as the leaking injector pump.
    another thread on here talks about big end failure around the 300k mark so a oil pressure gauge might be the go as well.
    mine takes off from the lights better than the '85 MK patrol turbo diesel i had before, and a damn sight better fuel economy too

    I changed the injectors on mine at 400,000k's and it was a waste of money as it made no difference at all,after sorting the issue I would simply get it tuned at a diesel specialist and leave it alone. Pat

    Cam timing was one tooth out. IP and crank timing were fine.
