    Diesel mechanic advice please

My td6 rangie had reco injectors and one turned out to have a broken internal spring which caused it to be jammed open. This overfueled the engine to buggery, (i was trying to bleed the car with a petrol fume rag) and all i got it to do was blow lots of white diesel smelling smoke, cough but not fire (i did this for several hours before realising that a reco injector had a fault).

The injector company has since replaced the faulty supplied injector, and i installed it tonight. The car runs ok but is still blowing constant white diesel smelling smoke after 10 minutes of running.

I am assuming that there is alot of diesel trapped in the turbo and exhaust of the engine, which is being re-circulated through the egr, and also being blown straight out the exhaust. BUT, shouldn't that get less and less? Its not a little bit of smoke either.

Check your engine oil level, it is probably full of diesel, drain it and replace oil and filter, Regards Frank.

    woo hoo.

seems the more i run the car, the clearer the exhaust gets. My theory is that the filter on the exhaust (diesel version of a cat converter) was full of diesel.

Yes the Oxy-cat could soak up a lot of diesel.

However, even if that is the problem, I would change the oil ASAP as you will likely have fuel dilution.

    Exclamation

You should see how much smoke a 50 ltr V16 blows with a knackered injector... covered an entire 10 acre site today in smoke. Lots of people were very unhappy... Glad to hear yours is on the mend though...

Ha! Know exactly what you mean! Had a KT50 Cummins drop one on a 2500HP dyno during it's run in. Had the Fire Brigade turn up after a neighbouring business saw all the smoke billowing out of the dyno room exhaust vent thinking we were on fire!!

Yeah, I think you need to see one go to believe it. Mine was a K50 too - in a genset. Had it at about 80% load on a load bank when it went. Everyone thought it had caught fire....
