Is this overboost? New MAF created new symptom.

    Hey all.

Just got a new Britpart MAF sensor for our Disco 2 TD5 from Paddocks in the UK. Once I installed it I was pleased to see that the power was back when the MAF was connected (it was gutless and crap with old MAF, have been running with MAF disconnected) ... BUT...

When I hit over 2.5k revs it shudders and chokes (for want of a better word.) It is best described as the following:

vrooom, gasp, vroom, gasp, vroom, gasp.

It wont push past that rev range, and the "gasp" sounds like the turbo venting (is that how you'd say it?). With MAF disconnected it's back to normal (well the normal I've had lately).

When I bought this D2, the low grunt had been acknowledged by the previous owner, and his "mechanic" had said "that's just the way some of these are..." meaning he had no idea how to fix it and I assume he's adjusted the turbo to try and fix it.

Now I have what I presume is a working MAF, any adjustments they may have done would be incorrect.

Can anyone help me decide if I'm on the right track here? And link to any relevant threads or turbo adjustment info.

    Cheers.

    Wil

    yes that is over boost.

check the vac hose's from the intake pipe to the modulator then from there to the waste gate.

And if they are fine check in the good section for my post on how to adjust the waste gate.

Longer the rod less = less boost.

I have a nanocom and live in brisbane if you want to check it working

    Thanks for that info!
I'm away for work at the moment, but when I return in a few weeks I'll have a crack at it. I may chase you up on the nanocom offer too :-)

    Cheers

Sounds similar to my issues caused by a combination of over boost and more air flow than the factory MAF can handle. Contact Alive Tuning (TD5 Alive) for their uprated MAF and turbo booster box. Works a treat.

The uprated maf wont stop overboost.

    overboost is the map sensor.

out of interest have you put a nanocom on and seen when the td5 alive maf limits the readings?

Nope. I've been so stoked with the way the car is currently driving it that I've just been driving it instead of testing/fixing/playing with it - it's a nice change!
